Things happen in life when we have to make a decision at the spur of the moment, and sometimes these decisions include going immediately on a trip. However, there are things we cannot just shove inside a suitcase like pets. Can you find anyone in time to take care of them while you’re gone? You know you don’t want to entrust your precious pet in one of those shabby shelters, so don’t fret and learn how simple it would be to bring them with you.
Most airlines are not averse to having pets on board. If you’re lucky, you can even bring your pet along with you inside the aircraft, provided they’re small enough to fit in a cage and can be stowed under the seat. However, if your pet is too big then it may to have to stay in the cargo area but don’t worry, it will be quite comfortable because the temperature and pressure in the area is regulated. Although very few airlines don’t allow pets anymore, it would be wise if you could confirm this fact with the airline in case you may have to find another one. Double check airline policies regarding pets on board, particularly if you’re doing the reservations online.
Like normal flights, you would still have to reserve a seat for your pet as the airline needs to know how many animals they’ll be holding inside the craft. Booking for pet seats are no different from regular seats, there is still a chance that it will be fully booked if you don’t do the reservations early on. One thing you do need to remember is to secure a health certificate for your pet. You need to get the health certificate as near the departure date as possible because it will only last for 10 days, you should have no problem getting one from your vet. Since it will last for 10 days only, you may have to procure another one for your return trip home if your journey takes longer.
Your pet has to be confined in a kennel or animal carrier during the flight. Pet shops sell a variety of animal carriers, you should be able to find one within your budget. There’s a wide variety to choose from, most come with padded walls and different sizes to accommodate animals of any size. Choose a kennel that will pass muster at the airline, you don’t want to buy one that you cannot carry it inside the plane. Don’t be afraid to ask the personnel if you don’t know which one to purchase.
It’s not even necessary to put your pet to sleep. Your pet would probably be sleeping during the whole flight anyway. To make the flight comfortable for your pet, teach it to stay in the crate. Once you’ve done that then you’re good to go! Enjoy your trip with your pet!
